Bonfire Night, 5th of November

The celebration of Bonfire Night began over 400 years ago on the 5th of November 1605 when a man called Guy Fawkes failed to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London.

Nowadays, on the 5th of November, England celebrates this special event with bonfires, fake Guy Fawkes models (or dummies), fireworks, sparklers and lots of special food including toffee apples and toasted marshmellows.

Lydia has taught the students a special saying that people traditionally say on this day to remember the event:

"Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot,
I know of no reason,
Why the gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot"

Happy Bonfire Night!
