Having in mind the idea of continuing encouraging our students to participate in several activities in different subjects in English and French. During these three days, the aim is that foreign languages are all around the school. A lot of activities have taken place including talks, theatre, cinema, workshops, karaoke, mind games, exhibitions, yoga, and many more.
The week started on Wednesday with the introduction of the National Geographic exhibition in which the students had to choose their favourite photograph from a collection of twenty picturesque images about nature and then make an oral presentation in groups in class. (2) Students really enjoyed that activity. The exhibition is open to everybody who likes to see the colourful pictures.
The Batxillerat students attended an interesting talk by Macmillan Publisher about British traditions and stereotypes.
Some of the 2nd ESO students had the opportunity of doing yoga in English helping them to learn how to concentrate and relax.
Lydia Davis, our language assistant, gave a motivating talk with the title Tea Time, about different cultural aspects of Britain and the CAS students could enjoy a nice cup of tea in class.
The French students watched interesting short films in French and also the film Amélie with their teacher in class, then they commented on the activity and gave their opinions about the films.
And finally to end the first day, the Sing Along Company gave a wonderful karaoke session in which not only the students, but some teachers also became artists for a day.
Jeudi a été, aussi, une journée très active, pleine d'activités. Comme la cuisine est un élément très important de chaque culture, les étudiants de français 1er BAT ont réalisé un atelier de crêpes et quelques élèves d’anglais du 4ème ESO un autre atelier de cupcakes. Le petit-déjeuner ou encas dans la cour est devenu un grand festival gastronomique international, très applaudi par toute l'école.
Ensuite, les étudiants de français du 3ème ESO ont activé leur ingéniosité avec une série de jeux de logique: La maman de Toto a 3 fils, Tic, Tac et …….?
Per altra banda, els alumnes de CAS i de 1 ESO van fer un British Quiz per demostrar qui és qui té més coneixements sobre cultura britànica.
Durant tota la setmana vam encoratjar alguns professors d'altres departaments a participar i fer sentir també la seva veu. Algunes de les activitats que van dur a terme el dijous van ser: els alumnes de 1 ESO van fer l'activitat del National Geographic amb el professor de Geografia, el David López, que també ha estat un dels creadors de l'activitat; els de 4t ESO van fer una classe de mitologia “A Greek Myth” amb l'Antoni Marsal; els de l'optativa de teatre de 3 ESO van fer “English sketches” amb la Claustre Pallarès; els de 1r ESO van jugar al Tangram en anglès amb la Sandra Segú i també amb el Jordi Serra, que va ensenyar-los vocabulari d’un programa de manipulació d’imatges; els alumnes de Periodisme de 1 BAT amb la Neus Salvat van fer “News in English”; els de 3 ESO van veure curtmetratges en anglès amb el Lluís Fernández; a les classes de música, amb el Joan Miquel Simon i el Felip Brunet, van cantar cançons en anglès; els alumnes dels cicles dels tallers mecànics i elèctrics van fer diverses activitats de vocabulari; i, finalment, a les classes de tecnologia de 3 ESO amb el Ramon Vidal, van fer activitats de vocabulari en anglès.
One of the activities for the Second Languages Week was held on Friday by Richmond Publisher for 4th ESO students. They participated in a talk called “Common mistakes and false friends” in which they were expected to answer some questions on English pronunciation. It was an amazing activity.
Lower level students watched Speaking Spanglish by The Blue Mango Theatre at the cultural centre in Valls. Later on Friday, 4th ESO and Batxillerat students also watched another play by the same company called Shake It Up. Feedback was positive and they showed great interest in watching the play.
Jack Silva, The Magic English Teacher, amazed 1st ESO students with his magic tricks. It was a great opportunity to practise English while having fun.
There were several film shows during the day 1st and 2nd and 3rd ESO students watched Into the Woods with David López and Cristina Ayala while some students in Batxillerat watched a funny short film around the theme of speed-dating. They had to read and discuss some questions in groups using English.
All the activities were enjoyable with the aim to explore English and French in fun and interesting ways. Students had a great time participating in them. We tried our best to make the II Foreign Languages Week a success and we hope to do better next time.
Des del Departament de Llengües estrangeres valorem molt positivament aquestes jornades ja que involucren alumnat i professorat a gaudir d'uns dies diferents on l'anglès i el francès són els protagonistes. Totes les activitats, tant les organitzades pel nostre departament com pels altres professors implicats, han estat un èxit de participació i també de plurilingüisme. En aquest sentit, com a institut GEP tenim el propòsit de caminar cap a un aprenentatge més global de les llengües i també cap a una integració d'aquest aprenentatge en un context més real.
Finalment, volem agrair a tothom que ha col·laborat desinteressadament en la Setmana: als participants en el concurs de cartells, especialment a l'alumna guanyadora, Ilham Benlhadj de 2 ESO C pel fantàstic cartell que ha creat; al professorat per la col·laboració i els ànims que ens han donat; al Departament d'Educació física per prestar-nos el seu espai, i a l’equip directiu per totes les facilitats que ens ha donat.
Esperem que us hagin agradat les activitats i que puguem continuar en propers anys amb aquesta proposta d'aprenentatge lingüístic global i integrador.
